Safe and Supportive Schools Grant awards $62,000 to Anderson County High School

Anderson County High School is one of only 20 schools in Kansas selected to participate in the Safe and Supportive Schools Grant awarded by the Kansas Department of Education. The process began last fall when parents, teachers, administration, and students were asked to complete a survey about our local school climate.  The response to this request was outstanding, which qualified the school for the grant and provided information that illustrated the responder’s areas of concern.

A plan to address these concerns was developed and submitted to the grant committee for consideration.  The school received word that it had been awarded the grant in the spring.  At the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year students and staff began to notice results of the awarded funds.

  • Security cameras have been installed in areas of the building that were previously unprotected.
  • A new staff member has been added to supervise the Focus Center where students are sent when they are not following school expectations.
  • A program will be implemented to provoke thought and inform the freshman class of the dangers of underage drinking.
  •  Students who have made bad decisions in their academic life will be provided with a curriculum to guide them towards better decisions in the future.
  • The school now has the ability to contact parents about various aspects of their student’s school activities.

Keep watching this page for further explanations and the results of these new programs.
