Semester fee of $25 for each art class will be paid during enrollment. Full year course is $50.
ART INTRO Semester Course - 1/2 Unit (Level 9, 10, 11, 12)
A prerequisite for all other art courses. (Can skip this course if student passed 2 junior high art classes)
Art Intro introduces the student to the principles of design and the elements of art, the color wheel, fundamental drawing skills that will be used for sill life, landscape, and portrait projects. Students will use various mediums to learn basic art procedures and techniques in 2-diminsion and 3-dimension aspects. Projects include perspective drawings, printmaking, sculpture, and basic to intermediate clay techniques (pinch, coil, and build). Weekly art exploration and creative drawing journals are standard.
ADVANCED ART (Independent Study Art) Semester- 1/2 unit or Year (Can be repeated) (Level 11, 12)
Prerequisite: Teacher Approval Only
Student must be highly proficient in medium choice for independent study coursework. Students must be self-motivated and able to manage project time. Students will also assist as needed in regular classrooms.
CERAMICS/ CERAMICS II - Semester Courses - 1/2 unit
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art or JH Introduction to Art and JH Intermediate Art
Students will utilize art foundations from introduction courses. Students will plan, sketch, and scale images prior to creating clay projects or sculpture artworks. Students will explore various approaches and techniques for each medium. The ceramic unit will utilize basic clay techniques, ab building and wheel projects, along with various texture and glaze applications. The sculpture unit will explore various materials of wire, foam, and cardboard. Students will use a weekly art journal for sketches, note taking, critique, and art exploration of artists and art periods.
DRAWING I/ DRAWING II Semester Courses - 1/2 Unit or 1 Unit (Level 9, 10, 11, 12)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art or JH Introduction to Art and JH Intermediate Art
Students will utilize art foundations from introduction art courses. Students will explore various drawing mediums of lead pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, oil pastels, chalk pastels, ink, and paint, using various drawing papers. Projects will build on skills from prior foundation courses focusing on personalized styles and refining the students’ drawing skills. Projects will include original works of abstract, still life, perspective landscape, and portrait pieces. Students will use a weekly art journal for sketches, note taking, critique, and art exploration of artists and art periods.
MULTI-MEDIA DESIGN Semester Course - 1/2 Unit (Can be repeated) (Level 9, 10, 11, 12)
Prerequisite: Art Intro or JH Introduction to Art and JH Intermediate Art
Students will utilize art foundations from introduction art courses and will research, plan, sketch, and design images prior to creating. A combination of various mediums used in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and graphic design will be used to create mixed media projects. Students will advance printmaking skills to include monoprints, linoleum cuts, and intaglio print processes. Students will use a basic graphic design program for individual projects and piecework for mixed media projects. Students will use a weekly art journal for sketches, note taking, critique, and art exploration of artists and art periods.
PAINTING I/ PAINTING II Semester Courses-1/2 Unit or 1 Unit (Level 9, 10, 11, 12)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art or JH Introduction to Art and JH Intermediate Art
Students will utilize art foundations from introduction art courses. Students will plan, sketch and grid images prior to painting. Students will explore various painting mediums of watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, and oil paints on a variety of paper and canvas surfaces. Projects will build on skills from prior foundation courses focusing on personalized styles and refining the students’ painting skills. Projects will include original works of abstract, still life, landscape, and portrait pieces. Students will use a weekly art journal for sketches, note taking, critique, and art exploration of artists and art periods.
