21st CENTURY JOURNALISM Full Year Course - 1.0 Units (Level 9,10,11,12)

 

This class will study a wide range of journalism, including but not limited to, news stories, sports reporting, writing editorials, copyediting, proofreading, advertising, newspaper layout and design, and digital photography techniques.

ACCOUNTING Full Year Course - 1 Unit (Level 10, 11, 12)

 

Accounting courses introduce and expand upon the fundamental accounting principles and procedures used in businesses. Course content typically includes the full accounting cycle, payroll, taxes, debts, depreciation, ledger and journal techniques and periodic adjustments. Students may learn how to apply standard auditing principles and to prepare budgets and financial reports. Calculators, electronic spreadsheets, and fully automated online software is used.

 

AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION FUNDAMENTALS Semester course – 0.5 Unit (Level 9,10, 11, 12)

 

Students will develop news videos for the Channel 126 broadcasts and three sports highlight videos for the sports award’s events. Skills will include videotaping, storyboarding, editing, captioning, creating special effects, anchoring, and adding background music. 

 

BANKING AND FINANCE Semester Course – 0.5 Unit (Level 9,10,11,12)

 

Banking and Finance courses provide students with an overview of the American monetary and banking system as well as types of financial institutions and the services and products that they offer. Course content may include government regulations; checking, savings, and money market accounts; loans; investments; and negotiable instruments.

 

BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS Semester Course – 0.5 Unit (Level 9,10, 11, 12)

 

Students develop effective communication in business situations and environments. Emphasis is placed on all phases of communication:  speaking, listening, thinking, responding, reading, writing, communication non-verbally and utilizing technology for communication.

BUSINESS ESSENTIALS Semester Course – 0.5 Unit

 

A course designed to give students an overview of the business management, AV communications and finance career cluster occupations. Students will develop an understanding of how academic skills in mathematics, economics and written and oral communications are integral components of success in these occupations. Students will examine current events to determine their impact on business and industry and legal and ethical behavior, acquire knowledge of safe and secure environmental controls to enhance productivity, determine how resources should be managed to achieve company goals and identify employability and personal skills needed to obtain a career and be successful in the workplace.

 

DIGITAL MEDIA DESIGN & PRODUCTION Year Course - 1 Unit (Level 9,10, 11, 12)

 

Enrollment by instructor approval only.

 

Students plan, design and create the Bulldog Yearbook. This includes advertising sales, digital photography and extensive use of desktop publishing features. Digital Media Design and Production will provide students with the opportunity to apply the fundamental techniques learned through the production of a multi-media project for public presentation. Topics include developing a production schedule, working as a team, utilizing composition principles, and embedding content in digital formats. Must have a grade of B or higher in last completed English course.

 

GRAPHIC DESIGN Year Course - 1 Unit (Level 9,10, 11, 12)

 

Commercial Graphic Design courses teach students to use artistic techniques to effectively communicate ideas and information to business and customer audiences via illustration and other forms of digital or printed media. Topics covered may include concept design, layout, paste-up, and techniques such as engraving, etching, silkscreen, lithography, offset, drawing and cartooning, painting, collage, and computer graphics.

WEB DESIGN Semester (2020-21) 0.5 Units, hope to be Yearlong by 2021-2022 1.0 Units (Level 9,10,11,12)

 

Students will create webpages using different programing languages and web editor programs. The class will start very basic and work on skills as the students’ progress. Skills could include use of digital photography, layout, and graphic design.
